Live Video Streaming FAQ
Q: Can I get mobiles and tablets to view my stream as well as desktop flash users?

A: Yes. This is a very frequently asked question. Mobile streams out with HLS perfectly from your FMLE, Wirecast, or Tricaster RTMP source. Then simply use our embed generator for desktop flash to mobile switching. The same applies if you are streaming VOD, as long as you follow recommended encoding specifications.

Q: Do you support multi-bitrate streaming for live? Can use the _1 and _2 feature in FMLE to send two streams?

A: You can stream at your multiple bitrates and switch between them with one smil document that matches your bitrates. It's better to use our transcoding system, as you get a stronger source stream, and keyframe alignment, as well as any customizations you want.

Q: My app needs to be Low-Latency and the random CDN I was using wouldn't do this for us.

A: We hear this all the time. We have several Low-Latency HLS apps tuned for very specific iOS timing requirements, as well as RTMP low-latency chat applications.

Q: I want to record, and show it as soon as possible with a VOD embed.

A: With our Recording system, live streams are saved on the server: stream live, have it recorded, and as VOD shortly after.

Q: Why do I have to pay a minimum of $99 a month?

A: We aren't a start-up giving away product to acquire customers. We do have a demo request form. We don't and will never have advertising. Start-up streaming companies change their business model without notice, splashing ads all over your streams. Since we are a business too, we charge money. To be blunt, if your business isn't worth $99 a month for its website, CDN or streaming, the problem lies with you, not us. Using free, or $5 hosting reflects poorly on an organization in our opinion. Choosing proper, scalable hosting means you are prepared to grow.

Q: Why don't you just give out free demos automatically? Why do I have to talk to you?

A: We like to understand our customers, their business, and their abilities. Free demos are a complete waste of everyone's time if there's no possibility for both parties to make money.

Q: Why don't you guys do contracts? Everyone is trying to lock me into a contract, and you don't care?

A: We don't care. All we ask is that you pay for each month in advance. We earn your business every month, and we don't want you to be locked in to something you don't need.

WaxCloud Recording System FAQ
How does it work?

A: Your stream(s) are copied to disk, as well as streamed live to the world. This is a bit copy, done in mp4 format. We have two systems, one that records an hour at a time. This is ideal for surveillance, churches, and other systems where you want readable, reliable archiving of continuously streamed cameras, and where doing full length recording of a stream is impractical due to the length of the continuous stream. The other system does recording of the entire stream, either based on the presence of the stream, or under command and control from our control panel. It's good for sporting events where you want to provide access to the event after the fact, and don't want any interruption.

Q: Can I tell the server when to start recording, and when to stop?

A: Yes. We have HTTP controls in the control panel that will allow you to start/stop and split a recording.

Q: How quickly can I get the recording out? I need extremely fast time to publish.

A: The file appears about an hour after you stop recording, in your storage archive. We also have "Instant VOD" where we record a predictable filename, which is made immediately available when the stream ends. This is the fastest time to publish available from any CDN. Really cool when combined with transcoding.

Q: How much is disk storage?

A: It's $0.50 per GB, stored on large ZFS arrays, replicated to a backup.

Q: Do I have to have a VOD account with this?

A: This feature comes with VOD service. You will be able to browse to your recordings and instantly generate a fully compatible player for most devices.
